Acai Berry
Acai berries can be introduced as early as 6 months once your baby has started solids. These small, antioxidant-rich fruits are typically offered in a pulp or powder form mixed into other foods, as fresh berries are not widely available.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Mix a small amount of unsweetened acai purée into breast milk, formula, or yogurt. 9-12 months: Swirl into oatmeal or chia pudding for a nutrient-dense breakfast. 12+ months: Blend into smoothies or top pancakes with acai purée and fresh fruit.
Nutrition
Acai is packed with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and antioxidants like anthocyanins which support overall cellular health. It provides a unique nutrient profile that contributes to healthy brain development. Because it is low in sugar, it is an excellent way to introduce new textures without overwhelming a baby’s palate.
A note from the editors
Acai has a naturally earthy, cocoa-like flavor that pairs beautifully with banana, strawberry, or creamy avocado.
Good to know
Always ensure you are using unsweetened acai purée or high-quality freeze-dried powder to avoid added sugars. There is no major choking hazard with puréed or powdered forms, but always introduce new foods one at a time to monitor for any sensitivities.
