Almond Butter
Almond butter can be introduced around 6 months. It's a nutritious alternative to peanut butter and helps introduce tree nut allergens early, which may reduce allergy risk.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Thin almond butter with water or breast milk and mix into purees or spread thinly on toast strips. 9-12 months: Mix into oatmeal, yogurt, or spread on soft bread. 12-24 months: Use as a dip for fruit or spread on crackers.
Nutrition
Rich in vitamin E, magnesium, healthy monounsaturated fats, protein, and fiber. Good source of calcium for bone development.
A note from the editors
Choose unsweetened, unsalted almond butter with no added oils. Store in refrigerator after opening.
Good to know
Tree nuts are a common allergen. Start with a small amount thinned with water or breast milk. Never give whole almonds or chunks to babies due to choking hazard.
