Almond Milk

Almond milk can be introduced after 12 months as a drink, but should not replace breast milk or formula before age 1. It can be used in cooking earlier.

How to serve at this age

Before 12 months: Use only in cooking (pancakes, oatmeal). 12-24 months: Can be offered as a beverage alongside a balanced diet, but shouldn't be the primary milk source.

Nutrition

Often fortified with calcium and vitamin D. Lower in protein and calories than cow's milk. Contains vitamin E and healthy fats.

A note from the editors

Shake well before using. Choose fortified, unsweetened varieties for best nutrition.

Good to know

Almond milk is not nutritionally equivalent to breast milk, formula, or cow's milk. Check for added sugars - choose unsweetened varieties. Tree nut allergy consideration applies.
