Food guide
Apple Juice
Apple juice should not be introduced before 12 months, and even then should be limited. Whole apples are a better choice.
How to serve at this age
12-24 months: If offered, limit to 4 oz daily and dilute with water. Serve in a cup, not a bottle.
Nutrition
Contains some vitamin C but lacks fiber of whole apples. High in natural sugars. No significant nutritional advantage over water.
A note from the editors
Better to offer whole fruit and water instead. If using juice, choose 100% juice with no added sugar.
Good to know
Can contribute to tooth decay and unhealthy weight. May cause diarrhea in large amounts. Fills up small stomachs.
