Food guide

Bacon

Bacon can be introduced after 12 months, but should be given sparingly due to high sodium, fat, and processing.

How to serve at this age

12-24 months: Offer small pieces of well-cooked bacon occasionally.

Nutrition

Contains protein and B vitamins. However, high in saturated fat, sodium, and often contains nitrates.

A note from the editors

Consider turkey bacon as a slightly healthier alternative. Better to offer fresh cooked pork instead.

Good to know

Very processed food - not recommended as a regular item. Choose uncured, lower-sodium versions if offering.
