Chard

Swiss chard can be introduced around 6 months. Both the leaves and stems are edible, with the stems being milder.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Puree cooked chard leaves mixed with other vegetables or grains. 9-12 months: Offer finely chopped cooked chard in mixed dishes. 12-24 months: Include in pasta, soups, or egg dishes.

Nutrition

Excellent source of vitamins K, A, and C. Rich in magnesium, potassium, and iron. Contains fiber and antioxidants.

A note from the editors

Cook stems longer than leaves as they're tougher. Rainbow chard has the same nutrition as green varieties.

Good to know

Cook chard thoroughly to reduce oxalates. The colorful stems add visual appeal to baby meals.
