Chayote
Chayote squash can be introduced around 6 months. It has a mild flavor and soft texture when cooked, perfect for babies.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Steam or boil until very soft and mash or puree. 9-12 months: Offer soft cooked pieces as finger food. 12-24 months: Include in soups, stews, or stir-fries.
Nutrition
Good source of vitamin C and fiber. Low in calories. Contains folate and some B vitamins.
A note from the editors
Chayote can be slippery when raw - use a vegetable peeler carefully. It takes on flavors of dishes well.
Good to know
Peel before cooking - the skin can be tough. The seed is edible and nutty when cooked.
