Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can be introduced from 6 months as a healthy source of fats for your growing baby. It's excellent for cooking, adding a mild, pleasant flavor to dishes.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Used for cooking vegetables or meats, or a tiny dab mixed into purees or porridges to add healthy fats. 9-12 months: Used in small amounts for cooking, baking, or stirred into soft foods like oatmeal or yogurt. 12+ months: Continue using in moderation for cooking, baking, or as a very thin spread on toast.

Nutrition

Primarily composed of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), coconut oil provides a readily available source of energy for your active baby. It contributes healthy fats essential for brain development and aids in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.

A note from the editors

Use virgin coconut oil for its beneficial properties and mild flavor. It’s a great fat for sautéing baby's vegetables or for greasing muffin tins.

Good to know

While generally safe and non-allergenic, use coconut oil in moderation due to its high saturated fat content. It should be part of a varied diet of healthy fats, not the sole fat source.
