Collard Greens

Collard greens are a sturdy, nutrient-packed vegetable that can be introduced at 6 months once your baby is comfortable with cooked textures. They offer a great opportunity to introduce savory, hearty flavors.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Steam until extremely soft and pulse into a coarse mash or finely shredded mixture. 9-12 months: Finely chop sautéed greens and mix with grains like quinoa or rice. 12+ months: Offer as a side dish or mixed into warm, hearty soups.

Nutrition

These greens are an incredible source of vitamin K, vitamin C, and calcium, which are crucial for strong bone development and healthy blood clotting. They also provide plenty of fiber to keep your baby's bowel movements regular. The phytonutrients in collards offer excellent support for your baby’s growing immune system.

Good to know

Remove the tough central stems before cooking, as they are fibrous and difficult for babies to chew. Always steam or sauté until very tender, as tough leaves can be difficult to swallow.
