Coriander Seed
Ground coriander seed can be introduced from 6 months to add a warm, citrusy, and slightly sweet flavor to your baby's meals. It's a gentle spice that helps expand your baby's palate without being overpowering.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Use a tiny pinch of ground coriander seed in purées, mashes, or mixed into soft vegetables. 9-12 months: Continue adding a small amount of ground coriander to flavor cooked grains, legumes, or mild meat dishes. 12+ months: Incorporate ground coriander into a wider variety of family meals, ensuring quantities are mild for young palates.
Nutrition
While not a primary source of macronutrients, coriander seed contains small amounts of dietary fiber, iron, and magnesium. It can aid digestion and contribute to a diverse nutrient intake through flavor.
A note from the editors
Lightly toast whole coriander seeds before grinding them to release a deeper, more aromatic flavor.
Good to know
Coriander seed is not a common allergen. Always use ground coriander seeds, as whole seeds can pose a significant choking hazard for babies and toddlers.
