Crab
Crab can be introduced around 6 months when baby starts solids. It's nutritious but requires careful preparation.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Serve finely shredded crab meat mixed with vegetables. 9-12 months: Offer small pieces as finger food. 12-24 months: Include in crab cakes or various dishes.
Nutrition
Excellent source of protein, zinc, and B12. Contains selenium and omega-3 fatty acids. Low in fat.
A note from the editors
Fresh crab is best, but canned crab (rinsed) is acceptable. Check thoroughly for shell pieces.
Good to know
Shellfish is a common allergen - introduce carefully. Remove all shell fragments. Avoid imitation crab (processed).
