Curry Powder

Curry powder, a fragrant blend of various spices, can be introduced from 6 months in tiny amounts to add warmth and complex flavor to your baby's meals. It’s a wonderful way to introduce diverse culinary experiences early on.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Add a tiny pinch of mild curry powder to purées, mashes, or steamed vegetables. 9-12 months: Lightly season mild curries or stews, ensuring the spice level is very low and evenly distributed. 12+ months: Continue incorporating into family meals, adjusting the quantity to suit your toddler's developing palate.

Nutrition

While used in small quantities, curry powder contains various spices that offer antioxidant properties. It enhances flavor, encouraging acceptance of a wider range of foods, and individual ingredients like turmeric may aid digestion.

A note from the editors

Start with a very mild curry powder blend or consider making your own from individual spices to control the heat and ingredients.

Good to know

While curry powder itself is not a common allergen, some blends may contain ingredients like fenugreek or mustard, which are less common allergens. Always check the ingredient list and introduce in small amounts, observing for reactions.
