Duck

Duck can be introduced around 6 months, offering a rich, flavorful, and nutrient-dense protein source. It's a wonderful way to expand your baby's palate beyond more common meats.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Thoroughly cooked, finely puréed duck meat, or ground duck mixed into soft porridges or vegetable purees. 9-12 months: Very finely shredded or minced, well-cooked duck meat, ensuring no tough or stringy pieces, mixed into soft foods like rice or pasta. 12+ months: Small, tender, finely chopped pieces of well-cooked duck, added to stews, pasta, or served alongside soft vegetables.

Nutrition

Duck is an excellent source of iron, which is crucial for preventing iron-deficiency anemia and supporting healthy oxygen transport in your baby's body. It also provides high-quality protein for growth and various B vitamins for energy metabolism.

A note from the editors

Slow-cooking methods, such as stewing or braising, help tenderize duck meat significantly, making it much easier for babies to chew and swallow.

Good to know

Ensure all duck meat is thoroughly cooked to a safe internal temperature to prevent foodborne illness. Always remove the skin, bones, and any gristle before preparing and serving to babies due to significant choking risk.
