Edamame
Edamame can be introduced around 6 months. These young soybeans are nutritious and have a mild, sweet flavor.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Mash cooked, shelled edamame. 9-12 months: Cut beans in half lengthwise and serve. 12-24 months: Offer whole beans once chewing is established.
Nutrition
Complete protein source. Good source of fiber, iron, and calcium. Contains omega-3 fatty acids.
A note from the editors
Frozen edamame is convenient and retains nutrients well. Steam pods, then shell for easy preparation.
Good to know
Soy is a common allergen. Remove from pods and mash or cut in half lengthwise for safety. Never serve in pods to babies.
