Fish

Fish can be introduced around 6 months when baby starts solids. It's an excellent source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids essential for brain development.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Serve pureed or very finely flaked fish mixed with vegetables. 9-12 months: Offer soft flakes as finger food or in fish cakes. 12-24 months: Serve in larger pieces, fish sticks, or mixed dishes.

Nutrition

High-quality protein, omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA), vitamin D, iodine, and B vitamins. Essential for brain and eye development.

A note from the editors

Salmon, sardines, and mackerel have the highest omega-3 content. Start with mild white fish if unsure about taste acceptance.

Good to know

Fish is a common allergen - introduce carefully. Always check for bones. Avoid high-mercury fish. Cook thoroughly to 145°F (63°C).
