Flaxseed Oil
Flaxseed oil can be introduced from 6 months as an excellent source of beneficial fats for your baby's development. It's easily incorporated into foods after cooking, adding a mild, nutty flavor and a significant nutritional boost.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Drizzle a small amount (1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon) over purées, mashes, or cooked vegetables after they have been heated. 9-12 months: Mix into yogurt, smoothies, oatmeal, or cooked grains, adding a small amount to one meal per day. 12+ months: Continue adding to a variety of cold or warm (not hot) dishes to ensure a consistent intake of omega-3s.
Nutrition
This oil is an outstanding source of Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid crucial for brain development and eye health in infants. It also contributes to healthy skin and supports overall growth.
A note from the editors
Flaxseed oil is delicate; store it in the refrigerator in a dark bottle and avoid using it for high-temperature cooking, as heat can degrade its beneficial properties.
Good to know
Flaxseed oil is not a common allergen. Always introduce new oils in small quantities. Ensure you are using food-grade flaxseed oil, not industrial varieties.
