Ghee
Ghee (clarified butter) can be introduced around 6 months. It's been used as a baby food in South Asian cultures for generations.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Add small amounts to vegetables, rice, or lentils. 9-12 months: Use in cooking and baking. 12-24 months: Include in various recipes.
Nutrition
Good source of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. Contains butyrate for gut health. High smoke point for cooking.
A note from the editors
Ghee has a nutty flavor that enhances many dishes. Store at room temperature for months.
Good to know
Ghee has milk solids removed, so some dairy-sensitive babies tolerate it. Still use caution with dairy allergies.
