Food guide
Gnocchi
Gnocchi can be introduced around 8 months. These soft, pliable pasta dumplings, often made from potato and wheat flour, are excellent for babies developing their pincer grasp and self-feeding skills.
How to serve at this age
9-12 months: Offer small, pea-sized pieces of well-cooked, very soft gnocchi. Serve plain or with a light, baby-friendly sauce. 12+ months: Serve gnocchi in slightly larger, bite-sized pieces, ensuring they are always cooked until tender. Encourage toddlers to use a fork.
Nutrition
Gnocchi primarily provides carbohydrates, which are a vital energy source for your growing baby's active brain and body. Depending on the ingredients, they can also offer some protein and dietary fiber, supporting overall development and digestion.
A note from the editors
Cook gnocchi until very tender, then toss lightly with a simple homemade tomato sauce or a drizzle of olive oil and pureed vegetables.
Good to know
Gnocchi typically contains wheat and sometimes egg or dairy, which are common allergens. Introduce one new common allergen at a time and watch for any signs of an allergic reaction. Always ensure they are very soft.
