Food guide

Ham

Ham can be introduced after 12 months, and should be given sparingly due to high sodium and processed nature.

How to serve at this age

12-24 months: Offer small pieces of lean ham occasionally as part of varied diet.

Nutrition

Good source of protein, B vitamins, and zinc. However, high in sodium and often contains preservatives.

A note from the editors

Look for uncured or natural ham with lower sodium. Better to offer fresh cooked pork instead.

Good to know

Choose low-sodium, nitrate-free options when possible. Ham is highly processed - should not be a regular food.
