Jackfruit
Jackfruit is a unique tropical fruit with a naturally sweet taste and fibrous texture, making it an interesting addition to your baby's diet. It offers a good source of natural energy for active little ones.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Offer small, well-ripened, deseeded pieces, ensuring they are very soft and mushy. You can also mash it into a puree. 9-12 months: Serve small, bite-sized pieces of very ripe, soft jackfruit, ensuring all seeds and stringy core are removed. 12+ months: Continue offering bite-sized pieces of ripe, soft jackfruit, emphasizing thorough chewing and continued removal of seeds and fibrous parts.
Nutrition
This vibrant fruit contains dietary fiber, which is wonderful for supporting healthy digestion and preventing constipation. It also provides Vitamin C, an important nutrient for boosting your baby's immune system and aiding in iron absorption.
A note from the editors
Choose very ripe jackfruit, as it is softer, sweeter, and easier for babies to manage. Store cut jackfruit in an airtight container in the fridge for a few days.
Good to know
Jackfruit can be quite fibrous and contains large seeds. Always ensure it's very soft, thoroughly deseeded, and all stringy parts are removed before serving to minimize any potential choking risk.
