Kidney Beans
Kidney beans can be introduced around 6 months. They must be thoroughly cooked - raw or undercooked kidney beans are toxic.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Mash well-cooked kidney beans. 9-12 months: Offer whole soft beans or mashed. 12-24 months: Include in chili, soups, and rice dishes.
Nutrition
Excellent source of plant protein and fiber. Rich in iron, folate, and potassium. Contains antioxidants.
A note from the editors
If using dried beans, boil vigorously for at least 10 minutes to destroy toxins. Canned is convenient and safe.
