Marjoram
Marjoram can be introduced from 6 months as a fragrant herb to flavor baby's meals. Its warm, slightly sweet, and peppery note helps broaden their palate and appreciation for diverse flavors early on.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Sprinkle a very tiny pinch of dried marjoram into purees, mashed vegetables, or soft cereals. 9-12 months: Incorporate finely chopped fresh marjoram or a pinch of dried marjoram into sauces, scrambled eggs, or soft pasta dishes. 12+ months: Use as part of regular family seasoning in appropriate amounts for their age, ensuring it's well mixed into food.
Nutrition
While used in small quantities, marjoram contributes a tiny amount of vitamins and minerals like Vitamin K and iron. Its primary benefit lies in introducing aromatic compounds and expanding your baby's flavor experiences.
A note from the editors
Start with a very small amount of marjoram to allow your baby to get used to the new flavor; fresh marjoram can be finely chopped and added towards the end of cooking.
Good to know
Herbs are generally safe for babies in small quantities. Always ensure any fresh herbs are thoroughly washed. While not a common allergen, observe for any individual sensitivities when introducing new flavors.
