Noodles
Noodles, typically made from wheat flour and sometimes egg, can be introduced from 6 months as a soft, chewable food perfect for developing self-feeding skills. They offer an excellent source of energy for active babies.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Offer well-cooked, very soft noodles cut into short, manageable pieces (about ½ to 1 inch long) for easy grabbing. 9-12 months: Serve slightly longer strands of well-cooked noodles, allowing babies to practice slurping and biting with supervision. 12+ months: Offer noodles in various forms and lengths as part of family meals, ensuring they are always cooked until very soft and easily chewed.
Nutrition
Noodles primarily provide carbohydrates, which are essential for supplying energy for your baby's rapid growth and development. Depending on the type, they can also offer some B vitamins for metabolism and a small amount of iron.
A note from the editors
Cook noodles until very soft and slightly overdone for younger babies, then rinse with cool water and cut them into short, thin strands or small pieces to prevent stickiness.
Good to know
Most noodles contain wheat, a common allergen, and some varieties also contain egg. Introduce plain noodles first, one at a time, and watch for any allergic reactions. Always ensure they are very soft.
