Oatmeal can be introduced around 6 months. It's one of the most nutritious first foods for babies.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Blend oats smooth before cooking for younger babies. 9-12 months: Serve regular oatmeal texture. 12-24 months: Add various toppings and mix-ins.
Nutrition
Rich in fiber, particularly beta-glucan. Contains iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Good source of protein and healthy carbs.
A note from the editors
Steel-cut oats take longer but have more texture. Overnight oats are convenient for busy mornings.
Good to know
Oats may contain gluten from cross-contamination. Start with smooth oatmeal and gradually increase texture.
