Pear

Pears can be introduced around 6 months. When ripe, they're soft and sweet, making them an excellent first fruit.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Serve ripe pear slices or cook until soft and mash. 9-12 months: Offer ripe pear slices as finger food. 12-24 months: Serve whole slices or include in fruit salads.

Nutrition

Good source of fiber, especially in the skin. Contains vitamin C, vitamin K, and potassium.

A note from the editors

Pears ripen from the inside out - check the neck near the stem for ripeness. Store unripe pears at room temperature.

Good to know

Ripe pears are soft and not typically a choking hazard. Unripe pears are hard and should be cooked or avoided.
