Food guide
Pickle
Pickles should be avoided until after 12 months due to high sodium content. Even then, offer sparingly.
How to serve at this age
12-24 months: Offer small amounts of low-sodium pickles occasionally as a flavor experience.
Nutrition
Contain some probiotics if naturally fermented. Very high in sodium. Low in calories.
A note from the editors
If offering pickles, choose naturally fermented varieties with lower sodium. Fresh cucumbers are a better choice.
Good to know
High sodium makes pickles unsuitable for babies. Commercial pickles may contain preservatives.
