Pita Bread
Pita bread can be introduced around 6 months, once your baby shows readiness for solids. Its soft, pliable texture makes it easy for babies to manage and allows for easy grasping for baby-led weaning.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Offer strips of soft pita bread, lightly toasted or untoasted, for babies to suck and gnaw on. You can also spread a thin layer of hummus or mashed avocado on it. 9-12 months: Tear into smaller, bite-sized pieces for pincer grasp practice, or continue offering strips. Serve with dips or as a side with meals. 12+ months: Serve torn pieces or small strips as part of meals. It can be used for dipping into age-appropriate stews or sauces.
Nutrition
Made from wheat, pita bread provides carbohydrates for energy, important for your baby's active growth. Whole wheat pita offers beneficial fiber for digestive health and some B vitamins that support metabolism.
A note from the editors
Lightly toast pita bread to firm it up slightly, making it easier for babies to grasp and less likely to stick together.
Good to know
Wheat is a common allergen. Introduce a small amount of pita bread initially and observe for any signs of an allergic reaction. Ensure pieces are soft and manageable to reduce choking risk.
