Pollock
Pollock is a mild, flaky white fish that can be introduced around 6 months of age. It's an excellent source of lean protein and essential nutrients, making it a great first fish for babies.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Cooked and flaked into very small, bite-sized pieces, ensuring all bones are meticulously removed. Mix into purees or serve as soft, mashable flakes. 9-12 months: Cooked and flaked into small, soft pieces that are easy for baby to pick up with a pincer grasp. Can be mixed into rice, pasta, or vegetables. 12+ months: Serve as small, flaky pieces, ensuring all bones are removed and pieces are manageable for independent eating.
Nutrition
Rich in high-quality protein, crucial for growth and muscle development. It also provides omega-3 fatty acids (DHA/EPA) vital for brain and eye development, and vitamin B12 for nerve health and red blood cell formation.
A note from the editors
Poach or steam pollock until fully cooked and flaky. This method keeps the fish moist and tender, making it easier for your baby to chew and swallow.
Good to know
Pollock is a common allergen (fish). Introduce it one at a time and watch for any signs of an allergic reaction. Always check carefully for bones and flake the fish into very small, soft pieces to prevent choking.
