Food guide
Radish
Radishes are a crisp, peppery vegetable that can be introduced as early as 6 months once cooked until soft. They add a exciting new flavor profile to your baby's palate as they explore more pungent tastes.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Steam or boil until soft, then serve in large, graspable wedges or mashed. 9-12 months: Chop into small, bite-sized pieces for pincer grasp practice. 12+ months: Serve cooked, thinly sliced, or grated into salads or pasta.
Nutrition
Radishes contain vitamin C and fiber, which support immune health and healthy digestion. While not as nutrient-dense as other veggies, they provide small amounts of potassium and calcium. They are a great way to introduce variety beyond mild, sweet vegetables.
A note from the editors
Roasting radishes with a drizzle of olive oil softens their sharp bite and brings out a lovely sweetness.
Good to know
Raw radish is a significant choking hazard due to its firm texture, so always cook them until fork-tender. While unlikely to cause an allergy, introduce them individually to watch for any digestive reaction to the sulfur compounds.
