Rapeseed Oil
Rapeseed oil, also known as canola oil, is an excellent source of healthy fats and can be introduced to your baby's diet from around 6 months. It's a versatile oil for cooking and adding beneficial calories to your baby's meals.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Drizzle a small amount (e.g., 1/2 teaspoon) over purees, mashed foods, or cooked vegetables to boost calorie and nutrient intake. Use in cooking methods like roasting or sautéing. 9-12 months: Continue to incorporate into cooked meals, such as adding to pasta sauces, stir-fries, or using it to bake baby-friendly muffins. It can also be mixed into yogurt or oatmeal. 12+ months: Use as a staple healthy cooking oil for family meals. It's great for salad dressings (if baby is accustomed to the other ingredients) or incorporating into a wide range of dishes.
Nutrition
This oil is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, essential for brain and eye development in rapidly growing babies. Its healthy fats also aid in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and provide concentrated energy for your little one.
A note from the editors
Use rapeseed oil to sauté vegetables or add a healthy fat boost to purees, helping increase calorie density for growing babies.
Good to know
Rapeseed oil has a high smoke point, making it suitable for various cooking methods. Always choose cold-pressed or organic varieties when possible.
