Redcurrant

Redcurrants are vibrant, tart berries that can be introduced from 6 months, always cooked. They are a wonderful source of vitamins and add exciting flavor.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Cooked and puréed, or mashed thoroughly and mixed into yogurt or oatmeal. 9-12 months: Cooked and mashed, or gently stewed and offered in small, very soft pieces. 12+ months: Cooked and lightly mashed, or as whole, very soft, stewed berries.

Nutrition

They are packed with Vitamin C, vital for a strong immune system and enhancing iron absorption from other foods. Redcurrants also provide dietary fiber, which aids healthy digestion.

A note from the editors

Combine cooked redcurrants with naturally sweeter fruits like apples or pears to balance their tartness and enhance palatability for your baby.

Good to know

Whole, raw redcurrants pose a choking hazard due to their small, round shape. Always cook them until very soft and prepare them appropriately for your baby's age.
