Food guide
Rice Cereal
Iron-fortified rice cereal can be introduced around 6 months. It's traditionally been a first food, though this isn't necessary.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Mix with breast milk or formula to desired consistency. 9-12 months: Combine with fruit or vegetable purees. 12-24 months: Use as base for various toppings.
Nutrition
Iron-fortified varieties provide important iron for baby's development. Easy to digest carbohydrate source.
A note from the editors
Vary baby cereals - oat, barley, and multigrain offer nutritional variety. Don't add cereal to bottles.
Good to know
Rice can contain arsenic - vary grains and don't rely solely on rice cereals. Choose fortified versions for iron.
