Romaine Lettuce

Romaine lettuce offers a mild taste and can be introduced from 6 months, always cooked and finely prepared. It’s a gentle way to introduce green leafy vegetables.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Cooked until very soft and puréed, or finely minced and mixed into other soft foods. 9-12 months: Finely shredded and cooked into soft dishes like scrambled eggs or stews. 12+ months: Finely shredded and steamed, or cooked into various dishes, ensuring it's very tender.

Nutrition

It provides Vitamin K, important for blood clotting and bone development, and Vitamin A (beta-carotene), crucial for healthy vision and immune function.

A note from the editors

Always cook romaine lettuce until it is very soft and wilted, which makes it much easier for babies to manage and digest.

Good to know

Raw, large pieces of lettuce can be tough for babies to chew and swallow, posing a choking hazard. Always cook and finely prepare it for your baby.
