Sage

Sage is a wonderful aromatic herb that can introduce complex flavors to your baby's palate from around 6 months. Its earthy, slightly peppery notes pair beautifully with various dishes. Introducing diverse herbs helps expand your baby's adventurous taste for healthy foods.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Finely chop or grind a tiny pinch of fresh or dried sage and sprinkle into purees, mashes, or cooked soft vegetables. 9-12 months: Continue to use finely chopped sage, incorporated into soft finger foods like scrambled eggs, ground meats, or pasta sauces. 12+ months: Sage can be used more liberally as a seasoning in family meals, still ensuring it's finely minced or ground.

Nutrition

While used in small quantities, sage offers antioxidants that can help support your baby's developing immune system. It also contains trace amounts of vitamin K, important for blood clotting. Primarily, sage enhances flavor, making meals more appealing without added salt or sugar.

A note from the editors

Mix a tiny amount of finely chopped fresh sage into mashed sweet potatoes or butternut squash for a fragrant twist.

Good to know

Sage is not a common allergen. Always introduce new herbs in small amounts to observe for any sensitivities. It is generally very safe for babies.
