Shiitake Mushrooms
Shiitake mushrooms can be introduced around 6 months when cooked until tender. They have a rich, earthy flavor.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Saute until tender and finely chop or puree. 9-12 months: Offer soft cooked pieces. 12-24 months: Include in stir-fries and soups.
Nutrition
Good source of B vitamins, selenium, and copper. Contains vitamin D when sun-exposed. Supports immune function.
A note from the editors
Dried shiitakes have more intense flavor - rehydrate before use. Save the soaking liquid for broths.
Good to know
Always cook - raw shiitakes can cause skin reactions in some people. Remove tough stems before cooking.
