Soy Milk
Unsweetened, fortified soy milk can be offered as a drink from 12 months, as an alternative to breastmilk or formula for toddlers. It's a plant-based option that provides important nutrients.
How to serve at this age
12+ months: Serve unsweetened, fortified soy milk in an open cup as a drink. It can also be used in cooking, such as in oatmeal, smoothies, or sauces.
Nutrition
Fortified soy milk provides calcium and vitamin D, which are crucial for developing strong bones and teeth, similar to cow's milk. It also offers protein for growth and development, and some B vitamins.
A note from the editors
Always choose unsweetened, fortified varieties of soy milk to avoid added sugars and ensure your toddler receives essential nutrients like calcium and Vitamin D.
Good to know
Soy is a common allergen. If introducing for the first time, offer a small amount and observe for any allergic reactions. Soy milk is not suitable as a primary drink before 12 months, as it doesn't provide the complete nutrition of breastmilk or formula.
