Squash

Squash (general term for various winter and summer squash) can be introduced around 6 months when cooked soft.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Steam or roast until soft and puree or mash. 9-12 months: Offer soft pieces as finger food. 12-24 months: Include in various preparations.

Nutrition

Excellent source of vitamin A and vitamin C. Contains fiber, potassium, and B vitamins. Low in calories.

A note from the editors

Winter squash can be roasted with skin on for easier handling, then scooped out. Stores well for months.

Good to know

Remove seeds and skin from hard winter squash. Summer squash skins are tender and edible. Cook until very soft.
