Food guide

Starfruit

Starfruit is a fun, uniquely shaped fruit that adds variety to your baby's diet once they are ready for finger foods. It is a juicy, refreshing treat, though it should be offered sparingly due to its tartness.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Remove the ridges and skin, then finely dice the fruit into tiny, soft pieces. 9-12 months: Slice into thin, soft star-shaped slices, ensuring all seeds are removed. 12+ months: Serve thinly sliced, ensuring pieces are small enough to be chewed easily.

Nutrition

Starfruit is a good source of Vitamin C, which is vital for collagen production and a strong immune system. It also contains small amounts of dietary fiber and antioxidants. Because it is high in water content, it contributes to overall hydration during mealtimes.

A note from the editors

Choose very ripe, yellow starfruit, as they are significantly sweeter and softer than the green or under-ripe varieties.

Good to know

Remove all the waxy edges and any seeds before serving, as these can be choking hazards. Note that starfruit contains oxalates, so it should be avoided if your baby has a history of kidney issues.
