Sunflower Oil

Sunflower oil can be introduced from 6 months once your baby is ready for solids. It's a versatile cooking oil that adds healthy fats and a smooth texture to baby's meals.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Use a small amount (1/2 teaspoon) in purees, mashes, or to sauté vegetables for finger foods. 9-12 months: Continue to use as a cooking oil or drizzle a small amount over cooked foods like pasta or roasted veggies. 12+ months: Incorporate into family meals as a healthy cooking fat.

Nutrition

A good source of healthy fats, particularly polyunsaturated fats, which are important for brain development and energy. It also contains vitamin E, an antioxidant.

A note from the editors

Use sunflower oil to sauté vegetables or mix into grain dishes to increase calorie density for active, growing babies.

Good to know

Sunflower oil is not a common allergen. Ensure it's used as part of a balanced diet, not in excessive quantities, to provide healthy fats without overloading on calories.
