Swede

Swede (rutabaga) can be introduced around 6 months. It has a mild, slightly sweet flavor when cooked.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Steam or roast until soft and mash. 9-12 months: Offer soft pieces as finger food. 12-24 months: Include in mashes, soups, or roasted vegetable mixes.

Nutrition

Good source of vitamin C, potassium, and fiber. Contains manganese and B vitamins. Low in calories.

A note from the editors

Swede is sweeter after frost exposure. It mixes well with potato or carrot in mashes.

Good to know

Must be cooked - raw swede is too hard. Peel before cooking as skin is tough. Cook until very soft.
