Truffle
Truffles, a gourmet fungi, can be introduced to babies around 6 months for flavor exposure, though they offer minimal nutritional value. They can add a unique, earthy taste to baby's meals.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Tiny amounts of high-quality truffle oil (not essence) or extremely finely grated truffle mixed into purees or soft cereals. 9-12 months: Small shavings of truffle or a dash of truffle oil in cooked dishes, ensuring no hard pieces remain. 12+ months: Finely grated truffle or truffle oil can be added to age-appropriate meals, always in moderation.
Nutrition
Truffles offer minimal nutritional value for babies, primarily serving as a flavoring agent to introduce unique savory (umami) tastes. They are not a significant source of vitamins or minerals.
A note from the editors
Use truffle oil sparingly to add an aromatic, earthy note to mashed potatoes or scrambled eggs for your toddler.
Good to know
Introduce truffles in very tiny amounts to avoid overwhelming your baby's developing palate. Always use high-quality, pure truffle products and avoid artificial flavorings.
