Venison

Venison, a lean and nutrient-dense red meat, is an excellent first food suitable from 6 months. It's packed with essential nutrients crucial for your baby's rapid growth and development.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Slow-cooked until very tender, then shredded finely into long, thin strips for baby to gnaw on, or mixed into purees. 9-12 months: Small, tender diced pieces, thoroughly cooked, or finely shredded meat mixed into other foods. 12+ months: Small, tender diced pieces, can be offered in a variety of preparations, ensuring it's easy to chew.

Nutrition

It's an outstanding source of highly absorbable heme iron, vital for preventing iron deficiency and supporting cognitive development. Venison also provides high-quality protein for muscle growth and B vitamins for energy metabolism.

A note from the editors

Slow-cooking venison, perhaps in a low-sodium broth or water, makes it incredibly tender and easy for babies to manage and digest.

Good to know

Always ensure venison is cooked thoroughly to an appropriate internal temperature to eliminate any risk of foodborne illness. Supervise your baby closely during mealtimes.
