Food guide
Wheat Berry
Wheat berries are whole, unprocessed wheat kernels that can be introduced from 9 months. They offer a chewy texture and rich nutrient profile, perfect for developing palates.
How to serve at this age
9-12 months: Cook until very soft and then mash or finely chop. You can mix them into purees, yogurt, or soft casseroles. 12+ months: Continue mashing or finely chopping, or offer as part of a soft grain salad once your toddler is confidently chewing and swallowing.
Nutrition
Packed with fiber for healthy digestion, complex carbohydrates for sustained energy, and plant-based protein. They also provide essential minerals like iron and magnesium, crucial for growth.
A note from the editors
Cook wheat berries in advance and store them in the fridge for a few days to easily add to meals as needed, saving prep time.
Good to know
Wheat is a common allergen. Introduce wheat berries after your baby has tolerated other wheat products like soft bread or pasta. Due to their small, firm, round shape when raw or undercooked, they pose a choking risk.
