Wild Rice
Wild rice can be introduced around 6 months when cooked until very soft. It's actually a grass seed, not true rice.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Cook until very soft and mash or puree. 9-12 months: Serve soft cooked wild rice mixed with vegetables. 12-24 months: Include in grain blends or casseroles.
Nutrition
High in protein compared to other grains. Good source of fiber, B vitamins, and antioxidants. Contains zinc and phosphorus.
A note from the editors
Wild rice takes longer to cook than regular rice (45-60 minutes). Soaking overnight can reduce cooking time.
Good to know
Wild rice has a chewy texture - cook until very tender for babies. It's naturally gluten-free.
