Zaatar
Za'atar, a Middle Eastern herb and spice blend (often including thyme, oregano, sumac, and sesame), can be introduced from 6 months to add a delightful new flavor to your baby's meals.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Sprinkle a tiny pinch into purees, yogurt, or over soft cooked vegetables to introduce new flavors. 9-12 months: Mix a small amount into hummus, sprinkle on soft bread or pita strips, or season cooked poultry or fish. 12+ months: Incorporate into family meals as a seasoning for roasted vegetables, meats, or a sprinkle over eggs.
Nutrition
Contains a variety of herbs that offer antioxidants. Sesame, a common ingredient in za'atar, provides healthy fats and minerals like calcium and iron, beneficial for development.
A note from the editors
Start with a very small amount of za'atar to introduce the flavor profile gradually, as it can be quite aromatic and intense for little ones.
Good to know
Sesame, a common ingredient in many za'atar blends, is a common allergen. Introduce za'atar very sparingly and watch for reactions. Always check the ingredients list if your baby has known allergies.
