Almond
Almonds can be introduced around 6 months in safe forms like finely ground or as almond butter. Never give whole or chopped almonds to babies.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Mix finely ground almonds into purees or thin almond butter with water. 9-12 months: Add to oatmeal or baked goods. 12-24 months: Use in various recipes, still finely ground.
Nutrition
Excellent source of vitamin E, healthy fats, protein, and fiber. Contains calcium, magnesium, and iron.
A note from the editors
Blanched almonds (skin removed) are easier to grind smooth. Store ground almonds in freezer to prevent rancidity.
Good to know
Tree nuts are a common allergen. Always serve ground to a fine powder or as smooth butter thinned with liquid. Whole almonds are a choking hazard until age 4+.
