Brie
Soft, pasteurized cheeses like Brie can be introduced from 6 months as part of a varied diet. It offers a creamy texture and mild flavor that many babies enjoy, adding another option for dairy introduction. Always ensure it's pasteurized.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Small, thin strips or smears of pasteurized brie, ensuring the rind is removed. It can be offered on a piece of toast or mixed into other soft foods. 9-12 months: Small, pea-sized pieces of pasteurized brie with the rind removed, served on its own or as part of a meal. Ensure it's soft enough to mash easily. 12+ months: Small, bite-sized pieces of pasteurized brie with the rind removed. Continue to offer in appropriate sizes.
Nutrition
Brie provides a good source of calcium for strong bones and teeth, and protein essential for growth and development. It also contains some Vitamin A and B vitamins, contributing to overall health.
A note from the editors
Always remove the rind from brie before serving to your baby, as it can be tough to chew and a potential choking hazard.
Good to know
Brie is a dairy product and a common allergen. Introduce it one at a time and watch for reactions. Choose only pasteurized brie to minimize bacterial risks. Remember babies need very little salt, so offer sparingly.
