Food guide
Kefir
Kefir can be introduced around 6-9 months. It's a fermented milk drink rich in probiotics.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Offer plain kefir from a cup or mixed into foods. 9-12 months: Use in smoothies or as a drink. 12-24 months: Serve as a beverage or in recipes.
Nutrition
Excellent source of probiotics, protein, and calcium. Contains B vitamins and vitamin K2. May be easier to digest than milk.
A note from the editors
Kefir is tangier than yogurt. Mix with fruit to balance the sour taste. Dairy-free kefir options exist.
Good to know
Dairy is a common allergen. Choose plain, unsweetened kefir. The fermentation process reduces lactose.
