Tuna

Tuna can be introduced around 6 months, but limit due to mercury content. Light tuna has less mercury than albacore.

How to serve at this age

6-9 months: Flake canned light tuna and mix with vegetables. 9-12 months: Offer soft flakes. 12-24 months: Include in salads or sandwiches (limit frequency).

Nutrition

Excellent source of protein and omega-3s. Contains selenium and B vitamins. Good iron source.

A note from the editors

Skipjack (light) tuna has less mercury than albacore (white). Fresh tuna has more mercury than canned.

Good to know

Fish is a common allergen. LIMIT due to mercury - no more than 1 serving per week. Choose 'light' tuna over albacore.
