Food guide
Couscous
Couscous can be introduced around 6 months. It's small pasta that cooks quickly and has a soft texture.
How to serve at this age
6-9 months: Cook until soft and serve plain or mixed with vegetables. 9-12 months: Offer as finger food - it's easy to pick up. 12-24 months: Include in salads and various dishes.
Nutrition
Good source of carbohydrates and some protein. Contains selenium and B vitamins. Often enriched with iron.
A note from the editors
Couscous cooks in just 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork to prevent clumping. Whole wheat couscous has more fiber.
Good to know
Regular couscous contains wheat gluten. Israeli (pearl) couscous is larger and may need to be cut.
